RHSAC Statements

COUNCIL ADVICE TO THE CEO ON MEDICAL RADIATION ISSUES - JULY 2011
During its April 2011 meeting, Council held a forum that included participants and presentations from the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), Australian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM), Department of Health & Ageing (DoHA), ARPANSA Medical Radiation Branch and other members of an expert panel. Council agreed to prepare advice to the CEO of ARPANSA based on these discussions and forwarded its report in July 2011. The full report and the CEO's response are available below.

COUNCIL ADVICE TO CEO REGARDING A REVIEW OF ISSUES RELATED TO THE MANAGEMENT OF INTERMEDIATE LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE IN AUSTRALIA - APRIL 2010
Council agreed on 27 February 2009 to undertake a scoping review of the types of intermediate level waste currently within Australia, and provide a report to the CEO of ARPANSA. The report includes discussion on the types of regulatory guidance required for the safe management and disposal of this waste. Council forwarded its report to the CEO in April 2010. COUNCIL ADVICE TO CEO ON A REVIEW OF THE NATIONAL DIRECTORY FOR RADIATION PROTECTION - EDITION 1 - SEPTEMBER 2008
Following a request from the Chair of the Radiation Health Committee (RHC) on 4 April 2007, Council agreed to undertake a review of the efficiency and effectiveness of the National Directory for Radiation Protection - Edition 1 (NDRP). Council engaged a consultant, Couch and Associates Pty Ltd, to assist in the collection and analysis of information and to prepare a report. Council forwarded its advice on the review of the NDRP to the CEO and the RHC in September 2008. Council's advice, and the report prepared by Couch and Associates Pty Ltd are available below.

COUNCIL ADVICE ON AN INDICATOR OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOR RADIOACTIVE WASTE - April 2004

COUNCIL ADVICE ON THE USE OF RADIATION IN PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE - August 2002
At its August 2002 meeting, Council discussed the use of radiation in preventative medicine. In particular, the issues of unreferred whole body CT scans and CT cardiac calcium scoring as screening tests were considered.
