The CEO of ARPANSA is the Competent Authority for the transport of radioactive material by a Controlled Person (as defined in section 13 of the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998) by road, rail and inland water ways within Australia.
The Regulatory Guide contains checklists to assist a Controlled Person who is seeking approval from ARPANSA to transport radioactive material.
Note: An applicant who is not a Controlled Person should contact the Competent Authority in their State or Territory as listed in Schedule B of Radiation Protection Series No 2. The checklists in this guide may be useful if acceptable to the relevant Competent Authority.

The RPS 2 adopts the IAEA’s Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, 2005 Edition (No. TS-R-1); and - Radiation Protection Series No. 2.1 (RPS 2.1) Safety Guide for the Transport of Radioactive Material, 2008 Edition, ARPANSA
