Radionuclide Fact Sheets
ARPANSA publishes a range of fact sheets about radionuclides that can be found in Australia.
Polonium-210
Australia scientists have measured natural polonium-210 in the environment to estimate how different areas of estuarine systems, seas and oceans will react to changes in climate and pollutant.
Caesium-137
Because of past nuclear weapons testing and nuclear accidents, trace amounts of caesium-137 are scattered across Australia and the world.
Americium-241
The main use for americium-241 in Australia is in household and industrial smoke detectors.
Strontium-90
Due to atmospheric nuclear weapons tests that occurred during the 1950s and 60s, some of which included testing within Australia, trace amounts of strontium-90 were dispersed throughout Australia.
