Your Application
Preparation
Before you commence writing your application we suggest you:
- Read the Selection Documentation;
- Browse the ARPANSA web site (www.arpansa.gov.au), paying particular attention to the Annual Report for an overview of ARPANSA and the ARPANSA Corporate Plan;
- Talk to the contact officer(s) if you have specific queries about the work undertaken in particular branches.
Structuring your application
Your application should consist of five parts:
- The Application Cover Sheet (available on the ARPANSA web site);
- A document addressing each of the selection criteria;
- Your CV or resume;
- A copy of your academic record to date;
The names and contact details of two referees. You do not need to provide written references with your application, however, if you are shortlisted for interview later, you will be asked to provide full references.
Addressing the selection criteria
This document is an important part of your application. It allows you to demonstrate to the selection committee how your skills, experience and qualifications relate to the selection criteria, and it is the selection criteria that are used to rank candidates for appointment.
You may feel that your are re-stating material that is quite clear from your CV or resumé; however, it may not necessarily be clear to selection committee members how particular qualifications or skills satisfy the requirements laid down in the selection criteria.
You should address each selection criterion in turn. Generally, we would expect your response to each criterion to be between half to one page in length, varying according to your skills and experience in each area.
It is best to avoid simply re-stating the selection criteria themselves. Specific examples of how your experience and qualifications relate to the selection criteria provide a better guide than general assertions.
Closing times
Applications will be accepted until 5pm on the closing date. If you are unable to lodge a full application by the closing date, you should discuss the circumstances with the contact officer to find out if an expression of interest will be accepted, followed shortly afterwards by a complete application.
