ARPANSA Comments On The News

2001 - The CEO of ARPANSA, Dr John Loy, announced a number of commitments reflecting his assessment of the report by the Advisory Group on Non Ionising Radiation to the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB - UK) on extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields and the risk of cancer. - Read the complete 2001 announcement.

2001 - In a press release the United States National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) concluded 'Evidence is weak that electric and magnetic fields cause cancer'. This statement followed six months of accelerated, Congressionally mandated research on the matter. Comments

2000 - Linet et al pooled the data from several epidemiological studies on powerline magnetic fields and health to investigate the association between magnetic field exposure and childhood leukemia. Comments

1997 - An epidemiological study in the New England Journal of Medicine concluded that there was no significant excess risk of acute lymphoblastic leukemia associated with magnetic field exposures of 0.2 µT or greater. The incidence of ALL, which is the most common childhood cancer is investigated. Comments
