ARPANSA Radiation Protection Series
Draft Code of Practice in the Medical Applications of Ionizing Radiation

ARPANSA’s Radiation Health Committee, the national body charged with recommending regulatory requirements for applications of ionizing radiation, has prepared a draft Code of Practice in the Medical Applications of Ionizing Radiation.

The Code of Practice, when adopted into the National Directory for Radiation Protection, will be applied in each Australian jurisdiction by the relevant radiation safety regulatory bodies to diagnostic and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy.

The draft Code deals with radiation protection of the public and occupationally exposed persons arising from medical applications and with radiation protection of patients. The draft Code is intended to be supplemented by Safety Guides describing good practice in each of the relevant medical modalities.
