Draft Amendment to the National Directory for Radiation Protection
Amendment No. 4 - Solaria

The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency is inviting submissions on Amendment No. 4 to the National Directory for Radiation Protection.

The aim of the Directory is to provide nationally uniform requirements for the protection of people and the environment against exposure or potential exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and for the safety of radiation sources, including provision for the national adoption of codes and standards. The Directory has been developed to address the needs of radiation protection regulators but it will also benefit other sectors involved in implementing radiation controls, such as mining and occupational health and safety regulators.

Edition 1.0 of the National Directory for Radiation Protection was published in August 2004.

Amendment No. 4 to the Directory proposes the adoption of nationally uniform regulatory elements for control of solaria. The amendment was derived from the outcomes of the National Forum on the Impacts of Regulating Solaria, held by ARPANSA on 20 November 2007, which were subsequently developed into a regulatory format by the Radiation Health Committee.

An accompanying draft Regulatory Impact Statement describing the costs and benefits of the proposed amendment has also been prepared. Comments are also invited on the Regulatory Impact Statement.

An Invitation to Make Submissions, the Draft Amendment and the Draft Regulatory Impact Statement can be downloaded via the links below.

Requests for hardcopies can be made by email to secretariat@arpansa.gov.au or by telephoning (03) 9433 2207.
