ARPANSA - Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency

This Code of Practice replaces the Code of Practice for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Substances 1990; published under the Environment Protection (Nuclear Codes) Act 1978. It adopts the International Atomic Energy Agency Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material 1996 Edition (Revised) (No. TS-R-1 (ST-1, Revised)), as published in 2000. It is intended to establish uniform requirements for the transport of radioactive material in Australia.

A 2008 edition of the Code that incorporates the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material 2005 Edition was published on 1 January 2008 and is intended to be adopted into legislation by all states and territories. This 2001 Edition of the Transport Code remains current in jurisdictions pending the adoption of the 2008 edition. Please refer to the relevant competent authority (PDF 19k) for advice regarding the status of adoption in a particular jurisdiction.
