Import Permits
Latest fee increases became effective on 1 February 2007.
Non-Medical Radioactive Substances
An ARPANSA permit is needed to import radioactive substances into Australia.
Read about the general requirements for getting a permit to import non-medical radioactive substances into Australia.
Single Shipment - Use this form (PDF 30kb) to apply for Customs prohibited import release of a single shipment. This form should be printed and completed manually.
12 Month Permit - Use this form (PDF 42kb) to apply for a 12 month permit for Customs prohibited import. This form should be printed and completed manually.
Phone inquiries can be made to the Non-Medical Import Permits Officer on (02) 9541 8340
Medical radioisotopes
A radioisotope is considered to be for medical use when it is intended to be:
- administered to humans or used for any therapeutic procedure or purpose in any planned exposure of humans to ionizing radiation;
- used in any in vitro medical diagnosis or test;
- used in research which is either directly or indirectly related towards medical diagnosis or therapy in humans.
Read about the general requirements for getting a permit to import medical radioisotopes into Australia.
Single Shipment - Use this manual form (PDF 259kb) or this interactive form (PDF 366kb) to apply for Customs prohibited import release of a single shipment.
Manual forms should be printed and completed by hand while interactive forms should be completed electronically then printed.
12 Month Permit - Use this manual form (PDF 259kb) or this interactive form (PDF 366kb) to apply for Customs prohibited import release of a single shipment.
Phone inquiries can be made to the Medical Import Permits Officer on (03) 9433 2211
Export Permits
An ARPANSA permit is needed to export highly radioactive sources.
Read about the general requirements for getting a permit to import non-medical radioactive substances into Australia.
Use this manual form (PDF 202kb) or this interactive form (PDF 253kb) to apply for Customs prohibited import release of a single shipment.
Manual forms should be printed and completed by hand while interactive forms should be completed electronically then printed.
Phone inquiries can be made to the Export Permits Officer on (02) 9541 8344
Electromagnetic Radiation Health Complaints Register
You can report your health concerns related to possible electromagnetic radiation (EMR) field exposures in the range of 0-300 GHz - telecommunications equipment, mobile phones, broadcasting transmitters, powerlines, induction heaters, microwave ovens and other personal, industrial and scientific EMR producing equipment.
Use the Standard reporting form (DOC 98kb) to submit a report.
For more information read a media release about the register or phone (03) 9433 2211.
Personal Radiation Monitoring Service
Centre Registration Forms
Personal monitoring is useful for checking the adequacy of radiation protection. It can be used for documenting the occupational doses of wearers, especially when the wearer is accidentally exposed, and to show inadequate or improper radiation protection practices.
The requirement for specific occupations to be monitored varies from state to state. Please check these requirements with your Regulatory Authority.
Use the new customer form (PDF 249kb) to register as a new customer.
For more information visit the PRMS page or phone 1800 678 112.
Wearer Registration Forms
To register wearers use the new customer form (PDF 46kb) or the existing customer (PDF 47kb)
For more information visit the PRMS page or phone 1800 678 112.
Electromagnetic Radiation Calibration
Calibration services including calibration of radiofrequency hazard meters, gauss meters, and personal RF hazard meters using test methods: TEM cell, anechoic chamber, wave-guide calibration apparatus or for ELF frequencies a Helmholtz coil.
Use this form to request further information (PDF 7kb).
For more information visit the electromagnetic radiation calibration service page or phone (03) 9433 2211.
Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) - Fabric Testing
The ARPANSA UV laboratory performs Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) testing on fabrics and other materials. The UPF rating indicates how effective a fabric is at blocking out solar ultraviolet radiation.
Use this form (PDF 90kb) to request further information or phone (03) 9433 2211.
Magnetic Field Meter Hire
The magnetic field meter is a hand held device with a digital display which reads in units called milligauss. It is used for measuring magnetic fields generated by the passage of mains electricity.
To hire a meter use this form(PDF 22kb).
For more information visit the magnetic field meter hire page or phone (03) 9433 2211.
