The objective of this draft text, as accepted by the Commission on Safety Standards (CSS), is to provide guidance and recommendations to States on developing arrangements, at the preparedness stage, for communicating with the public and media and for coordinating with all sources of official information in preparedness and response for a nuclear or radiological emergency. The new Safety Guide is intended to support, primarily, the implementation of Requirements 10, 13 and 16 of the General Safety Requirements publication Preparedness and Response for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency (IAEA Safety Standards Series No. GSR Part 7) and Requirement 43 of the General Safety Requirements publication Radiation Protection and Safety of Radiation Sources: International Basic Safety Standards (IAEA Safety Standards Series No. GSR Part 3).

Submit comments using the Member State Comments template below. Comments should refer to the relevant paragraph number of the review document. Propose alternative text when appropriate.

Note that the date given for submission to ARPANSA is earlier than that listed on the draft. ARPANSA will prepare a consolidated Australian response to submit to the IAEA by the deadline.
