New radiation equipment approvals
Regulatory approvals for new radiation equipment or apparatus (including associated radioactive sources)
Each Australian jurisdiction has its own radiation protection legislation and radiation regulator. In the past, suppliers and manufacturers of radiation equipment had to deal with radiation regulators in each relevant jurisdiction to find out if new radiation equipment would be authorised for use. If the equipment was to be sold in every jurisdiction, a supplier or manufacturer would have had to write to each of the nine radiation regulators in Australia.
This page provides a single entry point for a supplier or manufacturer of new radiation equipment to find out if the new equipment would be authorised for use.
Ideally we should have a single national position on whether new radiation equipment will be authorised (with or without conditions). However, this is not always possible. Our response to a supplier or manufacturer will clearly indicate the position in every jurisdiction.
As radiation regulators meet once a month via teleconference, we will endeavour to respond to a supplier or manufacturer within six weeks of receiving a request.
Please use the form below to provide the information on the new radiation equipment.
