The purpose of this document is assist licence holders in identifying the types of information which should be included in quarterly reports to the CEO of ARPANSA as part of ensuring compliance with the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (ARPANS) Legislation.

Quarterly Reporting Proforma

This proforma has been developed to assist licence holders in fulfilling their quarterly reporting commitments to the CEO of ARPANSA. It is designed for use by holders of a source or prescribed radiation facility licence.

Transfer and Disposal of Sources

This form is to be used to seek approval from the CEO of ARPANSA to destroy or otherwise dispose of controlled apparatus or controlled material. Disposal includes the transfer of controlled apparatus or controlled material to a person or organisation outside Commonwealth jurisdiction. Please refer to the Regulatory Guide for further information.

Transfer Notice Proforma (Regulation 53(2))

This form is to be used to advise the CEO about the transfer of controlled apparatus or controlled material to another organisation within the Commonwealth. This form must be received within 7 days of the transfer. Transfer of sources outside Commonwealth jurisdiction is deemed disposal and requires the prior approval of the CEO.

This procedure describes the steps taken by the officers of the Regulatory Branch to determine whether a UV source is classed as a controlled apparatus or not. This document clarifies the conditions specified in Regulation 4 and facilitates the decision process. The document should be used as an aid in interpreting the Regulations. However, it is still open for anyone to use Regulation 4 directly to determine whether an apparatus is classed as a controlled apparatus or not. This document is valid for both pulsed and continuous sources of ultraviolet radiation where the exposure duration is not less than 0.1 ms. This document does not apply to ultraviolet lasers.

This guidance document provides clarification to licence holders on what is expected in terms of the frequency of calibration of radiation detection instrumentation.

Interim Approval of Radiation Safety Training Courses

Interim approval of radiation safety training courses (PDF 50kb)

To assist licence holders’ compliance with licence conditions relating to training of persons who deal with controlled apparatus and controlled material, the CEO has issued interim approval to radiation safety courses approved by the State and Territory regulators. This interim approval will apply until ARPANSA implements its own approval process.

Stakeholder Education

ARPANSA Regulatory staff often provide educational sessions as part of licence holder forums, workshops, meetings or inspections. These presentations, whilst usually created for and presented to specific licence holders, contain useful content likely to be of interest to other groups.
